The New Educator Literature Grants are presented in memory of Mrs. Nancy Edwards and Mr. Jerry Alitto. Both Nancy and Jerry were members of KSLA Capital Area, then known as Capital Reading Council, and actively promoted literacy and a love of reading.
KSLA Capital Area will give monetary awards to three (3) new educators who are within their first three years of teaching. The monetary awards are designed to be used to enhance the literacy environment in the educator's classroom. Recipients will be recognized at their respective schools at a date that is mutually agreeable to the presenters and award recipients. Grant winners will also be honored at our Celebrate Literacy event.
Recipients will receive a one (1) year membership for KSLA Capital Area and Keystone State Literacy Association. If the recipient is already a member, the recipient's membership will be renewed for one year.
KSLA Capital Area members may nominate a new educator who provides opportunities for students to be read aloud to daily, time for independent reading, self-selected reading, and allows for peer conversations about books. The educator's classroom should promote a literacy-rich environment.
